About the role. As our Chief Accountant, you will own the accuracy and integrity of VIALET’s books – and you will also be the person who makes our accounting smarter. We process a high volume of transactions across many clients, currencies, and banking partners, and we believe that a modern finance function should spend its time on analysis and control, not on manual data entry. Alongside day-to-day accounting, regulatory and tax reporting, you will play a key role in automating our accounting processes, improving the integration between our payments platform and accounting systems, and building a faster, more reliable month-end close.

What you’ll do
· Oversee all accounting operations while staying hands-on, ensuring that sound processes and procedures are in place so that every transaction is recorded accurately, timely, and completely.
· Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including invoices, bank transactions, travel expenses, and other financial activities, ensuring accurate and timely posting in line with internal and regulatory requirements.
· Ensure accurate payroll calculations, coordinate with external payroll providers, ensuring full compliance with tax and labor legislation.
· Prepare financial statements (local GAAP), assist in preparing management reports, and regulatory submissions required by the Bank of Lithuania and other supervisory authorities.
· Provide detailed financial data, including income calculations, expenses, taxes, and interest calculations.
· Lead month-end and year-end closing processes with clear checklists, deadlines, and owners, working towards a faster and more predictable close.
· Act as the main point of contact during internal and external audits, prepare audit files and supporting schedules, and follow up on audit recommendations.
· Handle supplier communication, perform account reconciliations, and manage broader accounting tasks such as journal entries, provisions, accruals, and fixed assets.
· Prepare and submit VAT, corporate income tax, statistical, and other mandatory reporting, and communicate with the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) when needed.
· Maintain the chart of accounts and accounting policies, ensuring consistent application of local GAAP and internal rules across all transaction types.
· Design and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and documented procedures.
· Drive automation and AI adoption across the accounting function: map processes end-to-end, remove manual and error-prone steps (bank reconciliations, invoice processing, recurring entries), and keep a clear plan of improvements, while making sure every automated process stays controlled and auditable.
· Partner with Product, IT, and other teams on systems and integrations help develop the core payments platform and its links to the accounting system (ERP) and other tools, turn accounting needs into clear requirements, and test new features so they produce correct and reconcilable accounting data.
· Contribute to finance-related projects, system improvements, and process enhancement initiatives.
· Perform additional duties assigned by management in line with the scope of the role.
What you’ll bring
· More than 3 years of relevant accounting experience in senior roles, preferably in a highly regulated environment. Financial institution (EMI) experience is a big advantage.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (professional certifications such as ACCA or similar are considered an advantage).
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS or local GAAP) and understanding of tax and labor regulations, Bank of Lithuania regulatory reporting experience is considered a strong advantage.
· Hands-on experience with daily accounting operations and controls, including revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and expense processing.
· Understanding of safeguarding requirements for electronic money or payment institutions is an advantage.
· Experience with payroll and related tax calculations and payments.
· Proficiency in preparing financial reports and supporting audit processes.
· Good understanding of VAT, corporate tax, and other statutory reporting requirements in Lithuania.
· Hands-on experience in automating accounting processes and strong MS Excel / Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups). ERP implementation, accounting software integration, or an understanding of data flows between systems (APIs, imports/exports, data mapping) is a strong advantage.
· A process-improvement mindset: you question “why do we do it this way?”, make processes simpler and more reliable, communicate confidently with IT and developers, and help colleagues adopt new tools and procedures.
· Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in handling financial data.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments and with external stakeholders.
· Fluent in English and Lithuanian; additional languages are an advantage.
· Self-starter with a proactive mindset and the ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
